Jan Groneng, owner and chief baker at The Magic Rolling Pin.
The Magic Rolling Pin Tea Room and Patisserie is located at 302 King Street on the Northeast corner of King and Rubidge Streets. It is within walking distance of the downtown core. It is wheelchair accessible and offers both on street parking and site parking at the rear of the building entering off of Rubidge Street.
The Tea Room and Patisserie evolved from a part-time home based gourmet baking business. It was established on the foundation of four very important principles: Quality Products, Excellence in Customer Service, Providing customers with an inviting, friendly, elegant, peaceful setting and a strong desire to make every customer feel as if they were a member of The Magic Rolling Pin extended family.
Martin, Jan's husband, takes a rare break. Normally he is working behind the scenes - deliveries, landscaping, phone calls, etc. A true “Renaissance man”!
These factors are strongly reflected from the first moment you step into the Tea Room. The warm and cozy atmosphere immediately puts you at ease and the wonderful smell of home cooking whets your appetite. The Magic Rolling Pin is dedicated to excellence in both service and food. Staff pay close attention to food quality and detail in the plating of all of their dishes. We use only the best of products and support other Peterborough vendors by buying locally whenever possible. All pastries and desserts are “home-made” from scratch and baked fresh daily.
Again tied directly to the above principles is the element of professionalism that you experience from our staff. From the initial greeting with a warm smile and genuine welcome to personal seating in one of the four dining areas at tables elegantly set with white linen tablecloths, napkins and fresh flowers.
What is unique about The Magic Rolling Pin is that we provide a high level of service combined with an elegant dining experience as a “Lunch Venue” and “Tea Room”. We carry a wide selection of quality teas not found elsewhere in Peterborough and offer a very pleasing venue to meet with friends and family to enjoy lunch or afternoon tea.
The words “Excellent”, “Delicious” and “Wonderful Experience” can be found on just about every page of the Guest Book at the front door of the Tea Room.
